Caterpillar employees and their families celebrated Earth Week 2009 by planting about 15,000 trees on Saturday at the Peoria Park District's Fern Park, located northwest of Chillicothe. The project supports Living Lands and Waters’ MillionTrees project.
The MillionTrees effort started in 2007 with the establishment of a nursery in Beardstown, where currently more than 330,000 oak trees are growing from seed. The overall goal of the project is to grow and then replant one million trees over the next five to ten years along waterways and within our communities.
Last week, Living Lands and Waters also distributed nearly 7,000 trees to Caterpillar employees to plant at their homes. In total, more than 20,000 trees were planted on Earth Day as a result of the Caterpillar and Living Lands and Waters partnership.
