Due to the Kellar Branch getting the April 7th Oink Award from the Peoria Journal Star the directors of Recreational Trail Advocates decided to have any emergency clean up along the access road to the Ameren CILCO sub station parallel to the Kellar Branch. Seven people worked on the section from Pioneer Parkway to the rear of the CILCO sub station from 9 a.m.-noon on April 18.
They gathered 2 pickup truck loads of plastic bags, a sewing machine, pipes, gutters, cardboard, Styrofoam, and plastic bottles. Felipe Maganhato, Gabriel Ferreira and Anselmo Ferreira, David Pittman, Steve Jaeger, George and Sandra Burrier were involved. Earlier Maganhato and the Ferreira's cleaned up the northern section of the Rock Island Trail around Allen Road.
May 16 at 9 a.m. is the scheduled time for the fifth annual clean up of the Peoria Heights section of the Kellar Branch. Meet at the Peoria Heights Library. Wear sturdy shoes, gloves, and eye protection. RSVP to George Burrier at 266-5085 no later than May 15.
