In a post published yesterday Bill Dennis, my former editor and (current) friend, talks about the election.
In it he says, "And as for the fifth district race … I really don’t give a rat’s a**. Almost none of the people who live up there give a rat’s a** about people who live south of War Memorial Drive, and I’m just returing (sic) the favor."
I, The Judge, can't let that go by.
I gotta say, "Whoa there, Blogfather."
I live in the 3rd District, south of War Memorial.
If there is one thing I have come to realize it is that the taxes paid by those living in the 5th District pay for the services I enjoy in my little part of Peoria.
Without those in the 5th District I would not enjoy the level of police protection, the streets, the street sweepers, the dog catcher and other things I appreciate.
And, I have to say I have over the years been impressed by the level of commitment I have seen shown by those living in the 5th District when it comes to improving the neighborhoods south of War Memorial.
I have seen George Jacob numerous times picking up trash in my neighborhood and working on our pocket park. You might say that is just politicing. I don't think so. Jacob often brings his kids with him. He wants to teach them to give back to the community.
Jacob is just one example. There are plenty of others I did not name from the 5th District I've seen in my neighborhood and others at events I worked at.
Opinions like the one expressed by Bill fails to give much deserved credit to those in the 5th District who deserve it.
And don't even try to say I am sucking up to my readership.
I have no problem giving North Peorians a hard time when it is merited. My record would back that up.
JUDGEMENT: Bill owes the residents of the 5th District a swift apology.
