Peoria, Ill. -

Mayor Jim Ardis, while celebrating last night at Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy's victory party, said McCoy's opponent Vince Wieland got caught up in negative campaigning. Ardis said that may well have been a factor in Wieland's defeat.

Ardis said when a candidate takes 73 percent of the vote their integrity is not an issue with the vast majority of voters, even if the opponent resorts to negative campaigning.

“In a lot of campaigns some candidates are goaded into going that route. You have to be disciplined,” Ardis said.
“Vince is a friend. He’s an outstanding police officer. But, for someone to question the integrity of Mike McCoy. That’s when I get off the bus.”
